Avoid the toxic elements of the modern corporate office

It’s 6am and I’m staring at a diary packed full of meetings. Add to that the dozens of Slack channels, hundreds of unread emails and never ending notifications from our phones.

It’s 6am and I’m staring at a diary packed full of meetings. Add to that the dozens of Slack channels, hundreds of unread emails and never ending notifications from our phones.

How do I craft a work environment and culture that gives my team the space to be themselves and do their best work? I believe valuing high quality, healthy communication is a key ingredient.

Plato famously said that “Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something."

Let’s get back to blissful productivity and good team dynamics by removing unnecessary people from CC in those emails, calling an end to that meeting when we got what we came for (and know what we came for! That’s another post entirely). Name that Slack channel a “tmp_”.

These are just some small things and there are many more. But they all add up. As leaders we need to be proactive and help the team avoid the toxic elements of the modern corporate office.
