Feeling "ten years behind"
/
Ever had that feeling that you should have done something 10 years ago? Ever feel like now you’ve lost the opportunity and you can’t ever do it? I’ve definitely been there.
Ever had that feeling that you should have done something 10 years ago? Ever feel like now you’ve lost the opportunity and you can’t ever do it? I’ve definitely been there.
Yesterday during a rare 10K run I managed to listen to the latest episode of my favorite podcast called The Knowledge Project.
This episode features Hugh Howey (@HughHowey). He’s an adventurer currently on a 5-year trip sailing himself around the world. Hugh is also one of the most successful self-publishing authors in history.
Coming back to this paralyzing idea that we’ve missed out, this crippling feeling that we’re 10 years late. Hugh said something that will stick with me forever:
“10 years from now, we’re going to think the same thing about this very moment today.”
This has a lot of special meaning to me. I spent a decade working in the non-profit sector and have honestly struggled with a feeling of being “10 years behind” where I could have been as a professional and entrepreneur.
It’s better if you listen to the episode yourself, but he goes on to explain how there’s almost never a reason you can’t start doing “that thing” today! I felt so encouraged by Hugh’s perspective.
