Get your hands dirty!

This week our Strategic Thinking lecturer said that “unsubstantiated observations and opinions are for laypersons." (Dr. David White, University of South Australia)

It reminded me of another key idea I’ve come across:
Get your hands dirty!
I read this quote somewhere: “Do the work required to have an opinion”. Man that’s so good.
This is the age of outrage, hype and fake news. But we need to get our hands dirty, get the full picture and then make informed decisions based on reality.
When reality is complex, we need to acknowledge that instead of pretending it’s not.
Some of our tools are research/analysis, respectful disagreement and probabilistic thinking.
Sometimes things are nuanced. That’s okay.
