Getting to see the world through other people’s eyes
/
Everyone who has attended a traditional conference knows that your degree of engagement varies wildly from session to session. And let’s be honest, engagement is a strong word, many times you feel like a number and are actually just barely able to stay awake.
Today was the last day of Unconference 2019. During the morning we did something called “The Fishbowl”. Picture four empty chairs facing each other in the middle, surrounded by the remaining chairs in a circle.
The idea is that anyone can start or join the conversation by taking up one of the four seats in the fishbowl. The only rules are that there must always be one open seat, you can enter and exit as you wish and you only speak by sitting in one of the four seats.
We spent a large part of the time having a fascinating conversation about salary reviews and fairness. I certainly learnt a lot today and loved getting to see the world through other people’s eyes.
