Have your cake without eating it
/
Can I have this slice of cake? Should I finish these fries? The decisions were never easy nor the answers obvious. And the sugary cherry on top? My decisions were usually poor.
I’m one of the least self-controlled people I know. That’s why I exercise religiously and never eat sweets. Oxymoron? Au contraire!
It took me more than 30 years to figure out I’m never going to successfully moderate my sugar intake. So I made one decision instead of 1,000.
No to sugar in my coffee. No to soda, and no to sweets.
Yes to better body composition. Yes to more energy, and yes to health and wellness.
My life used to be a never ending cognitive wrestling match happening inside an emotional roller coaster ride.
Can I have this slice of cake? Should I finish these fries? The decisions were never easy nor the answers obvious. And the sugary cherry on top? My decisions were usually poor anyway.
It was energy sapping, sub-optimal and torturous. I can’t begin to explain the weight that lifted off my shoulders when I no longer had to make all these difficult decisions. It also produced a nice side-effect in lifting some weight off the rest of my body :)
“Disciplined people are better at structuring their lives in a way that does not require heroic willpower and self-control.” — James Clear
It’s not about self-control. It’s about simplicity, self-awareness and the power of habits.
Read Atomic Habits. It’s beautifully written and really could change your life.
