Herd immunity, herd mentality and how to beat the odds
/
We‘re starting to see more and more of our friends, family and colleagues affected by COVID-19 infections. As the number of people with an active infection rises, so do our chances of becoming infected ourselves.
There is no shame in that. The virus doesn’t care how many precautions you’ve taken. It just needs one gap and will take it without hesitation.
But there are things you can do to reduce your chances of becoming infected. Your primary defenses are wearing a mask around other people and washing your hands.
You can improve your odds even more. Have your groceries delivered instead of visiting a mall. Have dinner with friends via zoom instead of in person. Have a roadhouse dinner instead of a sit down meal.
These are your decisions and actions. In the coming months they can increase or decrease your chances of being part of the fortunate 30% that dodge infection.
As a leader at work and a dad at home I’m bracing for impact. It’s unlikely the stats for my colleagues and immediate family will magically end up being much better than the national averages.
Then again, I’ve never been satisfied with average results. As we crawl towards herd immunity, there’s never been a better time to cast aside herd mentality and approach life thoughtfully, deliberately and wisely.
