Home is where the heart and great leadership is

 /

Has working from home affected the way you approach your work? It has for me, and I’m not just talking about productivity or routines.

I came across a story about one of my favorite authors this week. He discovered something interesting while writing one of his books.

Some chapters were completed at the office and some at home. He noticed the parts written at home were clearer and more approachable. He wondered what could be going on?

Where he did the work clearly had a significant affect on how he did the work. Could your environment make such a big impact? More specifically, could being at home surrounded by your partner, children or pets be a game changer?

My own work from home experiment suggests the answer is an emphatic yes. I find myself leading with more empathy than before. Spending more time with my children has helped me connect better with my colleagues who are parents themselves.

It got me thinking. How do we lead wearing a t-shirt and jeans instead of fancy pants and a collared shirt? How does taking a coffee break in my favorite chair instead of a bustling cafeteria affect my approach to the next meeting?

This little post is just the tip of the iceberg. We know home is where the heart is. Perhaps it’s also where great leadership is!
