How important sleep is

 /

Oh. My. God.

I had one of THOSE nights last night. Went to bed at 9.30. Woke up an hour later. Rolled around. Fell asleep but woke up again at 1.00. Rinse & repeat. This little sleep circus was in town till 6.00am.

I’ve struggled with a mixture of feeling depressed on Monday and anxious on Tuesday. Which culminated in me drinking too much coffee yesterday. Add to that a few important changes at work. Throw in a host things on my mind both professionally and personally.

The formula is simple:

Feeling out of sorts + too much coffee + lots on my mind = Horrible night’s sleep.

This is no joke as I’ve recently been learning about just how important sleep is. It affects our health and performance in the short (next day) as well as long term (old age).

Dr. Matthew Walker said in a podcast that I listened to: “I think that sleep may be one of the most significant lifestyle factors that determines your risk ratio for Alzheimer’s disease.”

Wow. listening to this 3-part interview with Dr. Walker was a real eye opener for me. No pun intended :)

Wait till you hear what happens the day after daylight savings time kicks in every year. I won’t spoil it for you but take it from me....

Sleep. Is. Important.
