How you treat people at work matters

 /

How we treat the people at work is way more important than we realize.

Interpersonal neurobiology is critical to success in business and work life. It’s the study of how our behavior influences the emotions, biology and mind-sets of those around us.

Let’s put it more simply. How we treat the people at work is way more important than we realize.

How you treat the people that report to you matters. How you treat your boss matters. How you treat colleagues and business associates in general matters.

  • Respect.
  • Manners.
  • Admitting you were wrong.
  • Listening.
  • Gratitude.
  • Encouragement.
  • Fairness.
  • Being constructive.
  • Humility.

The list goes on but it all matters because we are not robots. We are only human.

In teams it affects collaboration, fulfillment and ultimately whether the team stays together, gets better and succeeds.

In projects it affects decision making, morale and ultimately whether the project is delivered on time, on spec and on budget.

I work hard. I’m smart. I’ve got over 20 years experience. I’m a leader. I’m definitely more type A than most. I set the bar high for myself and others.

But I’m only human.

If you cut me I bleed. At the end of the day, when we go home to be ourselves away from the corporate mirror, we are all Christina Perri.

But I'm only human

And I bleed when I fall down

I'm only human

And I crash and I break down
