Nobody cares about your R2 million banana during a crisis
/
Nobody cares about your R2 million banana during a prolonged global financial and health crisis. As the ancient saying goes: Shit is about to get real.
In early December of last year, someone in America bought a banana duct-taped to a wall for R2 million. On the other side of the world patient zero was likely being infected by the coronavirus.
A week later New York-based performance artist David Datuna ate the banana in front of a convention full of art lovers.
What a time to be alive. In just a few months the world has gone from people eating R2 million bananas to Donald Trump eating his words. Let’s not forget that as recently as two weeks ago he was still comparing COVID-19 to the flu.
I digress, the real point here is that you can make money by being arguably just novel and ridiculous. Like taping a banana to a wall. Or you can make money by adding real, practical value.
There is a high probability that we are now entering a prolonged global depression. These will be tough, sobering times and it will favor people who can genuinely add value.
My advice is to brace for impact. It’s time to be pragmatic. It’s time to manage your business and personal finances with diligence. As the ancient saying goes: Shit is about to get real.
