Only good rewriting

I had one of those short but interesting “water cooler” conversations with two colleagues yesterday (Ridwaan Kharva, Bradley King). They mentioned how they’d been reading my recent LinkedIn posts and asked where I found the time to write them.

I spend less time on these than one might think. I mostly do the thinking and formulating during the course of the day, and then the writing over my cup of morning coffee. It has in large part replaced scanning Twitter every morning and has proven to be a more creative and productive way to spend my time.

It does help that I’ve done a considerable amount of writing in my time. I find the words flow better now than 20 or even 10 years ago.

I also gave them some invaluable writing advice made famous by the prolific 20th century poet Robert Graves:

"There is no such thing as good writing. Only good rewriting".
