Stress + Rest = Growth

My new addiction is studying Charlie Munger. It’s sad that a few years ago I’d never heard of this 95 year old legend.

My new addiction is studying Charlie Munger. It’s sad that a few years ago I’d never heard of this 95 year old legend.

He’s Warren Buffett’s partner and the vice chairman of Berkshire Hathaway. Want to jump down the rabbit hole with me? Start at fs.blog:

A comment he made at a 2017 shareholders meeting caught my eye this week:

“You have to have a habit of reexamining your old ideas from time to time since without that, you can’t see when they become wrong.”

Tren Griffen writes about this at 25iq.com:

“A year in which you do not change your mind about something important is a wasted year in Munger’s view.”

Three things I’ve realized over this last year:

1. Decentralization is underrated

The efficiencies gained by centralization are often overshadowed by effectiveness lost.

2. Rest is underrated

A year ago I had not yet learnt - through injury and burnout - that although exercise is a key to wellness, it only works when combined with appropriate rest.

Stress + Stress = Burnout
Rest + Rest = Fade out
Stress + Rest = Growth

3. MBA’s are underrated

A year ago I would have said the only value MBA’s add is to look good on your CV. Now I realize it can be a catalyst for developing critical executive management skills.
