How much would you pay to read the best non-fiction book you’ve ever read?
I had lunch yesterday with the CEO of one of South Africa’s leading property groups. They have billions in assets and over 200,000m² of commercial, industrial and retail space.
After hearing about a particular business book twice in one week, he read it straight away. He told me that it’s been unbelievably helpful and deeply challenged his thinking.
Then he dropped the bomb...
He said knowing how impactful the book was, with the benefit of hindsight, he would have been willing to pay R1 million to read it. Wow.
It shows again the power of staying humble and keeping an open mind. It also highlights how top executives are typically hungry to learn and grow. And it reminds us that you can’t put a price on life changing wisdom.
Or apparently you can. R1 million for a book that has the potential to take your life and business to a whole new level!
A book that comes to mind personally is “How to Win Friends and Influence People” which I read 20 years ago. I reckon R50,000 feels about right.
