The company you already started without knowing it
/
What if you owned a company and your current employer was your first and biggest client. Would it have to be your only client?
You already own a business. In fact, you own 100% of the shares. Now unfortunately the shares are currently worth almost nothing. But guess what? You are the most influential person at this company. So... What are you going to do to make the price go up?
Great leadership includes self-leadership. We complain easily when large, complex companies do things that we think are wrong. But we gloss over the areas within Self Inc. where the CEO (us) could quickly and relatively easily bring reform and improvement.
This is a rich vein of thought but let’s look at just three implications of starting to think about Self Inc.
- Your current employer is a client of Self Inc. You are on a rolling contract.
- Your current employer may be Self Inc’s first and biggest client, but doesn’t need to be its only client.
- If Self Inc. is going to survive and flourish, surely it should have a research and development department with a budget?
