The power of diversity and teamwork

Most of the elements on the periodic table are metals. In their purest form, each one has its own melting point and physical properties. When you mix two or more of them you get what is called an alloy. This composite metal usually has strikingly different characteristics.

Why the heck are we talking about metallurgy on a Saturday? Because it’s a cool illustration of the power of diversity and teamwork.

Without alloys we could for example never have jet powered flight. No single metal can withstand the high temperatures created inside a jet engine. But certain combinations can!

I’ve been watching some of my team leaders help each other at work this week. It’s amazing to see how their different strengths, backgrounds and skills combine in certain situations. I’ve watched them handle things together that they could never have done by themselves.

Operational divisions are not called “the engine room” of technology companies for nothing. Some weeks run very hot, but with a diverse team you will be surprised what you can achieve.

I love being part of a team that is a melting pot of different personalities, passions and perspectives.
