They will never forget how you made them feel

My favorite tweet from last week is by James Clear:
“Compliment others more. You’ll barely remember you did it, but the other person may never forget that you did. Kindness has unlimited upside.”

I bet you can remember the last few times someone unexpectedly complimented or encouraged you. I know I can!
And it made a big difference to me for sure. It energized me in that area of my life and helped me see that I’m making a valuable and felt contribution to the world.
If I feel like that, then surely others do too. And if that’s true, then why would I be shy with praise? I think the sad truth is it’s easier to be negative.
From a leadership perspective this is even more important. My wife recently reminded me of this mind blowing Maya Angelou quote:
“I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, they will forget what you did, but they will never forget how you made them feel”.
