What is more important: Strategy or hard work?

What is more important? Strategy or hard work? That’s a trick question because clearly they are both important. It’s like asking what’s more important for flying: A bird’s left wing or their right wing?
Have you noticed that in the absence of hard work even a great strategy remains a dream? We certainly need to dream. But we need diligence to turn strategy into destiny.
There is one thing worse than a wonderful dream unrealized: A horrible dream that comes true. We call those nightmares.
Perhaps you’ve experienced this at work yourself? There’s plenty of hard work but no clear vision? Now we have the inverse of the previous problem. Without a great strategy, hard work becomes a nightmare.
So what is more important? Strategy or hard work? That’s a trick question because clearly they are both important. It’s like asking what’s more important for flying: A bird’s left wing or their right wing? For anything to take off, you need a mixture of both.
Without dreams, vision and strategy our hard work turns into nothing but toil. Without hard work, smart work and a bias towards action our great strategy turns into nothing but a pipe dream.
The better question isn’t which is more important but how do we get both? We need a process!
One where we influence each other to accomplish our objectives and steer us in a way that makes us more cohesive and coherent.
To flap both our wings and take off we need a birdbrain. We need the LEADERSHIP PROCESS!
