Willing to be wrong along the way

Yesterday my teams and I tried something new. We had never done it before. We didn’t know if it would be worth doing. So why did we do it? Because we are willing to be wrong along the way in our pursuit to ultimately be more right!

We decided to try disrupt our own standup process and instead “meet” in our division’s Slack channel at a certain time. Everyone got an opportunity to type a couple short sentences about what they’re busy with, where they need help or what others should be aware of.
And so 22 minutes, 100+ posts and a few hilarious emoji’s later we completed our first ever Type Up.
Will we do it again? Yes, we will give it a few more tries and keep asking whether it has value. The important thing is we are willing to try and we are willing to grow.
What I personally love about the Type Up is that it gives people who are more skilled at or have a strong preference for written over verbal communication a unique opportunity to “meet” with colleagues in a way that energized them.
One of the things I was reminded of at the NeuroPower™️ leadership course I did in the UK last year is how not everyone sees the world in the same way. Helping our teams embrace their diversity makes work more fun and makes our teams stronger.
