Working with who you want on what you want is really just play
/
There’s a word that perfectly describes working with who you want to work with, on what you want to work on.
Play.
People keep asking me how the new job is going and I keep telling them I’m loving it. It’s been five months already, so I don’t think it’s just a honeymoon effect.
It comes down to who and what.
My career was born into client platforms. It’s been in my blood for more than 20 years now. Same for financial services in general and equity markets in specific.
I’m learning so much from our CIO. I’m learning every day from my peers on our Global Markets Manco. And I’m genuinely inspired by my immediate team of tech leads, delivery owners and business partners.
Most mornings my mind is racing with work related thoughts and ideas while I brush my teeth. And not in a bad way. It’s more nervous excitement than anxiety.
It has its moments like any job of course. Major outages are no less terrible. But the who and the what more than makes up for the stressful parts.
Showing my age here but I’ve got the theme song from The Fresh Prince stuck in my head: “On the playground is where I spent most of my days”.
Today’s post is more of a journal entry than an article. But I think it’s good to stop and reflect a bit sometimes.
