Your heroes are imperfect, now go live your dream
/
Gandhi was a father to India but disowned his son. Einstein gave us relativity but was in love with his cousin. Hamilton was a legend but rumor was he slept with his sister-in-law.
Realizing that even our heroes are a complex mess can be liberating.
Gandhi was a father to all of India, yet struggled to be a father to his eldest son and eventually disowned him.
Einstein discovered Relativity but his wife left him when she discovered he was in love with his cousin.
Hamilton helped create the American system of government but flirted with his wife's sister and rumor was they had an affair.
It’s difficult to pinpoint why these three had problems at home. But it’s clear even great people of history had serious issues.
These examples show us how average our heroes are and teaches us important lessons:
The truth sets you free.
When you see the imperfections in those you esteem, your IMPOSTER SYNDROME will fade. And your excuses will fade too.
Also, be careful comparing your actual life to other people’s Facebook lives. It’s an illusion. Carefully crafted highlights that make lives look a million times better than they actually are.
A hot mess.
People you would consider “good” are bound to do some pretty messed up things. And people you consider “bad” are fully capable of genuinely loving their wives and children or doing something so good your mind will struggle to accept it.
“HUMANS ARE A COMPLEX MESS ... People aren't good or bad. Nearly all of us are somewhere in the middle.” - Steve Magness
