Your reputation proceeds you

We continually underestimate the power of personal relationships and reputation over formal qualifications and slick CV’s.

The last few interesting job and business opportunities I was approached over all came to me via close friends or former colleagues.

We continually underestimate the power of personal relationships and reputation over formal qualifications and slick CV’s.

I heard about a top venture capitalist talking about their edge. One might expect some combo of technical chops and intelligence. Think again. They said:

“Every prospect is encouraged to ask any past portfolio company about us. They make a few calls and we instantly become the frontrunner.”

As the saying goes: “Your reputation proceeds you.” This isn’t just for good reputations. It’s for the good, the bad and the ugly.

People matter.

Reputations matter.

Relationships matter.
